This picture is one of the reasons we created the Bitcoin Women’s Network. It reminds us that women before us worked hard to secure financial independence and access to the banking system. The women above founded the Women’s Bank in Denver, which opened on July 14, 1978, taking in $1 million in deposits on its first day. Their work helped open the door for women to hold accounts, obtain credit, and control their own financial futures—and today we continue that journey by expanding financial sovereignty in the Bitcoin era.
For much of history, women have been excluded from financial systems. Many could not open bank accounts, own property, or control their earnings withoutpermission from a husband, brother, or father. Financial independence for women is still relatively new in the long arc of history.
Financial literacy and control over money change everything. When women understand how money works through bitcoin education and various bitcoin resources, they gain the ability to make decisions about their lives, support their families, and plan for the future on their own terms.
